Dropping Soap

Prison jokes aside, I realized yesterday that I drop the soap about half the time I’m in the shower. It’s frustratingly hard to pick up and led me to consider why this keeps happening.

Soap is slippery for one. I wondered if the label notified me of this but I’ve never read a soap label so it wouldn’t have helped me anyway. If there were a disclaimer like, “Caution: Product liable to cause sliding on wet surfaces”, it would probably only be there because of a lawsuit sometime in the past. Like McDonald’s letting us know their coffee is hot.

Dropping a bar of soap certainly isn’t the most inconvenient event to experience but why the repetition? Haste I guessed next. I take the majority of my showers in bit of a rush. Have to get to work or wherever. But it’s more than that. It’s a lack of focus on the job at hand. My mind tends to wonder anyway but if I want to get this problem solved it’s going to take some attention to detail. I have to be in the moment.

This had to be how soap-on-a-rope was created. I’m not alone, that’s some comfort. Perhaps dropping soap is universal. Millions of people have experienced this minor annoyance along with me. Drop the soap, reach down and attempt to grab it. But it’s elusive, it slips from your grasp and slides away.

I’ll just have to be more careful.
